Three Years of Looking Closer

Three years ago, TheNextShots began with a simple belief: that creativity, and the culture that surrounds it, deserved to be documented with the same care that created it and, above all, from within an African perspective.

Since then, the unfinished work, the ideas, the processes, and the quiet moments before recognition have been our compass. Every story that we’ve covered has become another thread in a growing archive of creativity, preserving not only what was made, but the people, conversations, and cultural moments that gave it life.

Through our social media platforms, we’ve been privileged to sit down with, write about, and film upcoming and established figures that inspire us and the world, and we do not take that lightly. This has been a humbling journey, as we did not set out to be a diary of a culture, but we’ve been blessed and guided along the way as the voice became something people started to trust.

As we turn 3 this year, we reflect on the growth of our brand and audience. Starting at zero and celebrating nearly 120k followers and subscribers across our social media platforms while reaching up to a billion impressions is no small feat, and we are aware of what it takes to maintain the level and standard we’ve set. By staying true to our core and to what set us out in the first place, we know what cannot be missed.

We have learned along the way, we’ve grown, and every lesson has only sharpened what we set out to do from the start. And as we continue to do even more, from every creative that lets us into their universe to every what’s in store episode, we hope you’ll be there watching, as we would too, because this is a journey that will never end as long as makers make and artists paint and musicians sing. Because the real work is staying close enough to catch it as it happens, and staying honest enough to tell it right.

So here’s to looking closer, to the ones who built with us, the ones who let us in, and the ones who kept reading, watching, and believing. Three years down, and the story is only just getting started. Catch you in the next chapter.

Love,
